Natalie’s review: The Jonas series is pretty much the same as every other Disney TV show, but this series, I think, keeps you laughing a lot longer the any of the other shows. I think Kevin Jonas is the funniest guy on this TV show. I do recommend this series to people who are big Jonas Brothers fans!

Featured DVD: Spongebob’s Truth or Square

Nickelodeon presents SpongeBob SquarePants: Truth or Square available on DVD November 10th! The DVD features the Special Extended Director’s Cut of the “Truth or Square” TV Movie with celebrity appearances, including Robin Williams, Tina Fey, and others. It also includes the behind-the-scenes of the SpongeBob opening and karaoke music videos!

Truth or Square: On the Krusty Krab’s Eleventy Seventh anniversary, the entire crew finds themselves locked in the restaurant’s freezer! It’s going to be a really cold trip down memory lane. Featuring hilarious, never-before-seen flashbacks!

Porous Pockets: SpongeBob finds himself in possession of a shiny ball that looks a lot like a giant pearl, for which he’s offered a ‘small fortune,’ making him Bikini Bottom’s richest denizen.

Krusty Krushers: With a million dollar prize at stake, Mr. Krabs turns SpongeBob and Patrick into competitive tag-team wrestlers.

Choir Boys: Hearing Squidward is off to audition for the Bikini Bottom Men’s Choir, SpongeBob decides to join him. But only one of them can solo!

The Card: SpongeBob really wants what Patrick’s got: the super rare platinum, hologram, animated Mermaidman and Barnacleboy talking card #54.

While we no longer get Nickelodeon Channel, the kids still love that square yellow sponge and his friends. I love it when a new SpongeBob DVD comes out, because it means that the kids watch new episodes, instead of watching the same ones over and over and over and over again.

Of course, the episodes are only new the first time around, and the kids have already watched them each twice. :)

SpongeBob Truth or Square is available now on DVD.

Climb on board for fun on the high seas as three of your favorite Disney Channel shows come together in Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana – on DVD for the first time ever!

The SS Tipton embarks on a triple-length comedy crossover event when Justin wins a Teen Cruise to Hawaii – and a chance to meet London. Both Justin and Max do their best to win the heiress’s affection, while Cody tries to win concert tickets for Bailey, and Alex accuses Zack of being a prankster. Between the kids’ pranks (who turned Justin blue?!) and crazy schemes (Alex sneaks Harper on board to take her make-up science class?!), the excitement goes overboard when international superstar Hannah Montana checks in on her way to a sold-out concert in Hawaii. But when Miley Stewart loses her lucky charm anklet and her Hannah wig, are her days as the world’s biggest pop star over forever?

It’s all here in Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana with three times the fun and triple the laughs! Plus, this new full-length adventure includes exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, hilarious cast bloopers and more!

The kids were very excited to watch this – for some reason, they really love the cross-over episodes the Disney Channel does. And since we don’t get the Disney Channel, they have to wait for these shows to come out on DVD. The episodes on this disc were a huge hit with all four kids, and have already been watched twice each. :)

Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana will be available on DVD on September 22nd. The DVD special features include “Justin’s Award-Winning Essay” and behind-the-scenes footage.

Today is Jonathan’s birthday – he’s turning 10. Which means that our house will be inundated with Playstation-playing boys this evening. Three extra boys, plus Natalie’s friend for a sleepover equals 8 kids in our tiny house. Kevin may run away.

I haven’t done an Extreme Health Makeover post in a couple weeks. We didn’t have a meeting on Labor Day and I had a week where I gained 1 1/2 pounds, then the next week lost 1 1/2 pounds, so no further loss so far. Workouts are going well – starting to get into a routine. Listening to the fourth Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book on audio – makes the workouts go faster.

We’re in a routine with our homeschooling, too – the kids are doing well. The boys love the Horizons Math (we switched from Saxon). Natalie’s not completely thrilled with her history, though I don’t think that’s the curriculum’s fault. She’s enjoying her science and I’m enjoying the short stories we’re reading and discussing.

Even though my web surfing time has been seriously curtailed, I still managed to save a few links to share with you all:

~ Ten Scariest Sea Creatures – and Kevin wonders why the ocean is one of my biggest phobias.

~ The Telegraph: 50 Things That Are Being Killed By the Internet

Well, we made it through our first week back to homeschooling – it went well, we are all still speaking to each other, so far, so good. Natalie is getting used to her bigger load – she’s in junior high now – and will start her weekly babysitting gig next week. (It’s hard to believe that the baby girl I used to take to Bible Study nursery, where a homeschooled teenager would babysit her, is now the homeschooled (almost) teenager doing the babysitting!)

I only have a couple minutes before I’m heading to the gym. Fun way to spend Friday night, right? Actually, I love the gym on Friday nights – it’s so empty and quiet.

I just finished reading The Maze Runner by James Dashner – if you like science fiction, dystopian fiction, YA fiction – actually, if you just love a mind-blowingly good story that keeps you turning the pages, you should definitely read it. It’s being released on October 13th. I was lucky enough to be sent an ARC for review – my review will be up at Books and Movies in the next couple of days.

~ A Life in Pages: Send a man to the grocery store – this video is a bit long, but so funny.

~ Mommy Brain was linked to from the Rural Health Blog, as part of the Get Fit Colville program.

~ Scribbit: Should children have allowances? Some good thoughts here.

~ A Life in Pages: Funny wedding moment – another fun video.

~ Moomin Light: For Star Wars fans – this guy is incredibly talented.

Featured DVD: SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants

August 25, 2009 Categories: TV on DVD | Comments Off

(SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants was provided to me by Special Ops Media for the purpose of this feature.)

squarepants

The release of a new SpongeBob SquarePants DVD is always cause for rejoicing at our house, especially since the puny cable package we can afford does not carry Nickelodeon. The kids will still watch the yellow square-panted hero, though, on DVD – over and over again. So I’m also glad when a new one comes out.

SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants includes the following episodes:

To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants
SpongeBob’s shrunk his last pair of square pants, and no store has any others! Without his square pants, will anyone recognize him?

Squid’s Visit
Squidward says he wouldn’t leave the comfort of his home to visit SpongeBob. So SpongeBob redecorates the pineapple to look just like Squiddy’s place!

The Splinter
When SpongeBob gets a stubborn splinter, Squidward threatens him with being…sent home!

Slide Whistle Stooges
Patrick and SpongeBob use their new slide whistles to add sound effects to Squidward’s every move!

Boating Buddies
To regain his impeccable driving record, Squidward has to attend boating school…with SpongeBob!

The Krabby Kronicle
For Mr. Krabs’ new tabloid, SpongeBob wants to write the truth. Mr. Krabs wants “wild and juicy” – true or not!

The Slumber Party
Pearl asks Mr. Krabs to leave the house so he doesn’t ruin her party. So Mr. Krabs sends SpongeBob to crash the bash!

Grooming Gary
Gary gets a makeover to compete in a pet show. He can’t stand the primping, and neither can any of the competitors!

SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants is available now on DVD. The DVD special features include an animation art gallery with storyboard panels and character art.

suite

Set sail for fun and adventure with Zack and Cody in The Suite Life on Deck: Anchors Away! The guys are somewhat more mature, but that doesn’t stop them from pulling high-seas high jinks in four outrageously funny episodes from the smash-hit Disney Channel original series! Plus, this DVD includes the two-part pilot episode, bonus episodes, cast interviews and more!

The coolest twins on TV (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) are still living the “sweet life,” though now they’ve checked out of the Tipton Hotel and moved aboard a luxury cruise ship, the SS Tipton. While juggling the ups and downs of Seven Seas High School and their jobs on the ship, the guys hang out with the crew (including Brenda Song as London and introducing Debbie Ryan as Bailey) or pursue their latest crushes (Cody goes overboard trying to impress Bailey and Zack woos a beautiful first-class passenger). And life gets really exciting when their pal Maddie (Ashley Tisdale) makes a surprise visit and wins the heart of a prince!

Natalie’s review: I love The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and this is just as funny and crazy. A lot of people may think it is kind of stupid, and I can see that, but I think that this show is awesome. I do recommend this to everyone!

The Suite Life on Deck: Anchors Away! is available now on DVD. The DVD special features include two bonus episodes, and an interview with Debbie Ryan, the newest cast member.

Sonny Munroe takes Hollywood by storm in Sonny With a Chance, the fresh new comedy about a show within a show! In Volume One: Sonny’s Big Break, get to know Sonny from the very beginning with four hilarious episodes that will have the whole family laughing out loud!

Demi Lovato (Camp Rock, Princess Protection Program) stars as Sonny, a Midwestern girl who gets her big break when she is invited to join the cast of the hit teen sketch comedy show So Random! Sonny can’t wait to become friends with her castmates, but not everyone is thrilled to share the spotlight, so Sonny must rely on her quick wit, talent and good humor to get her through any challenge. Come along for the ride and share the excitement as Sonny lives her dream!

Natalie’s review: This show is hilarious and awesome. My brother Noah was laughing out loud also. Demi Lovato is a great actor and this show fits her perfectly. I totally recommend Sonny With a Chance to you all! I know you will all like it!

Must-See TV on DVD: Dollhouse, Season One

July 21, 2009 Categories: Reviews , TV on DVD | 6 Comments

(Dollhouse, Season One was provided to me by Click Communications for the purpose of review.)

dollhouse

In a city of millions, many souls get lost… Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents a glimpse into a world where the wealthy, powerful and connected come to play when Dollhouse Season One becomes “active” on Blu-ray and DVD July 28. From the mind of Joss Whedon, the creator of groundbreaking cult favorites Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly, Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushku (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Tru Calling) as Echo, just one member working for an illegal underground organization that implants employees with false memories and skills in order to perform various missions and dangerous tasks. These “dolls” can become anything that anyone desires; a lover, a fighter, an assassin, even a best friend. Once their assignment is complete, their memories are wiped clean and they are released back into the Dollhouse to cohabitate with their fellow colleagues under the watchful eye of those in charge. But Echo is slowly starting to become aware of herself and her surroundings… and one outsider will stop at nothing to bring the entire Dollhouse down.

Dollhouse Season One includes intense and stunning supporting performances from Olivia Williams (The Sixth Sense, Rushmore), Harry Lennix (State of Play, Across The Universe), Amy Acker (Angel), and Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica). The Blu-ray and DVD includes all 12 original episodes and tons of bonus features including the never-before-seen standalone episode “Epitaph One,” the original unaired pilot “Echo,” deleted scenes and seven making-of featurettes.

Kevin and I missed Dollhouse when it aired, and I’m glad we waited, because it would have been hard to only watch one episode at a time! This series has a unique premise and fantastic performances from the entire cast. While there are a couple of episodes that were a bit slower than the others, most of them are full of action and incredibly intense. The last few episodes spiraled down to a finale that has me wishing we didn’t have to wait until the fall to see what happens next.

Dollhouse, Season One will be available on DVD on July 28th.
