Noah recently read – and adored The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson. (In fact, he’s asked me four times if I know when the next book in the series is being released. I don’t. If you do, could you leave a comment so I can tell him and get him off my back?) Anyway, when I was asked to check out a site that James Patterson has helped found, with the simple goal of getting kids reading, I was happy to oblige.

The site is called ReadKiddoRead, and I’ve already found some great book suggestions for my kids. The message from Patterson on the home page says:

Welcome parents, teachers and librarians. You’ve found your way here because you’ve decided to take your kid’s reading future into your own hands. Something told you the only way to get kids to read was to give them great books, cool books, books they would absolutely, positively love. I believe we’ve gathered the creme de la creme of such reading right here. These are very, very special books that kids will gobble up and ask for more. If your kids get a few of these books under their belts they’ll be well on their way to becoming readers for life. I promise you.

There is so much to see at this site, starting with the book suggestions. They are broken into Great Illustrated Books, Great Transitional Books, Great PageTurners, and Great Advanced Reads. My local librarians are probably wondering what’s up – what with all the holds that I’m placing on their web site.

If you’re looking for some great ideas for books as Christmas presents for your kids, this site is an amazing resource. They have also set up a community site, where you can listen to author interviews with kids’ authors like Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and Rick Riordan (The Lightning Thief). There are blog entries with more great book suggestions and info on children’s lit, plus a forum where you can connect with other parents and teachers.

For more information, watch James Patterson on The Today Show, talking to Al Roker about ReadKiddoRead.
