One down, 179 to go…
Today was day one of our seventh homeschooling year. Seventh! I can hardly believe that. And, unfortunately, today seemed to be one of those days when my kids had been possessed by aliens and forgot how to be human to each other. The bickering was enough to make me want to scream. Which I did. Into a towel, in the bathroom, with the door closed. I call that a “Mommy Time Out.”
Here’s hoping day number two is better.

Yikes!
I have days like that, too.
Hey, I’ve become an accidental homeschooler. I blogged about it here.
Any tips for teaching kindergarten?
August 25th, 2008 at 9:57 pmBWAHAHA!
I can laugh only because we’re not starting up again until September 8th.
August 26th, 2008 at 3:44 amOh how I hear you!!! Life as a homeschool mom!! But the good days make it all worth it, right!?!? The hardest day for me is day One - getting everyone back in the groove AND hearing my “mom friends” say that they are going out to lunch since the kids are back in school!!!
August 26th, 2008 at 8:57 amSheila - I left a comment at your spot.
Lisa - laugh all you want, September 8th isn’t that far away.
BeckyB - no kidding! When my sisters talk about how quiet their houses are during the day…
August 26th, 2008 at 9:12 amI know exactly what you are talking about.
We started yesterday for what is our 10th year. Yesterday went well, today is another story.
August 26th, 2008 at 9:40 amTomorrow it will be one day less until the end of the year. That’s one up on today.
Andrea had many tough days like that as well. Things were easier when I was home because we could trade off once the frustration level was up.
August 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pmAt least you yelled into a towel in another room! I usually yell out loud in the same room and THEN wish I had had a mommy time out, in another room!
I think you did great!
August 26th, 2008 at 5:15 pmAwww! I feel ya! haha
We haven’t officially started yet. :-p
And I just figured it out, this is going to be our 5th year for homeschooling.
August 26th, 2008 at 5:59 pmMeg - what I don’t get is that when we went on vacation, they were so nice to each other - for a whole week! Hardly any bickering, playing together, helping each other. And they can be like that at home sometimes, too, but lately there has been a lot of sniping at each other. I think part of it is Nan’s age - 11 1/2 - and the hormones seem to be kicking in, which make her snarky at times. Sigh.
Ron - yes, that’s a good way to look at it. Kevin is telecommuting part time, now, so he will come up and talk to the kids when he can sense I’m at my limit. It helps some.
Lyn - Oh, I’ve done the yelling in the living room thing, too - sometimes I don’t have that much self-control.
Lawanda - good luck on your first day - hopefully it will be better than ours! And today, day two, was much, much better - thank God.
