Review of High School Musical 2
(High School Musical 2 was provided to me by Click Communications for the purpose of review.)
Okay, I admit it. I’m 35 years old, and I think Zac Efron is just about the cutest thing around. Does that make me completely weird - or a little freaky? I hope not. Not cute in a George Clooney-sexy kind of way, cute as in I’d like to bring him home and feed him mashed potatoes and gravy. We are huge High School Musical fans in our house - well, mostly Natalie and I - and we were waiting with baited breath for the release of High School Musical 2. And, surprisingly, it did not disappoint, in spite of how high our expectations were.
High School Musical 2 picks up at the end of the school year during which the events of the first film took place. Troy and Gabriella and the whole gang are looking forward to summer break. When they all get jobs working at the resort owned by Sharpei and Ryan’s parents, they think they’re set. They don’t count on Sharpei’s ruthless campaign to win Troy’s affections with bribes of scholarships and college basketball teams. Of course, all ends well, with Troy and Gabriella finally getting to share that kiss we’d all been waiting for.
The music is not quite as catchy as the first one, but still fun to beebop around the house to. The cast is all wonderful, and the sweet innocence and fun of the original is present in the sequel. Natalie has been begging for the soundtrack CD for her birthday, which is coming up soon. Of course, I’m not telling if she’ll be getting it or not, since she reads my blog.
The DVD is a special extended edition, with some longer scenes that were cut in the televised showing, plus an entire musical scene that wasn’t shown. There is a karaoke feature, which allows you to sing along, and music videos of the major songs.
And of course, there is the adorable Zac Efron. Did you see Hairspray?

I LOVE HSM and HSM II. I was more excited than my (very excited) daughter when I discovered that we’d get it a week early on demand through our FiOS TV. Did you know that Vanessa Hudgens was homeschooled starting in 7th grade and so never actually went to high school?

December 5th, 2007 at 1:50 pmI’ve only seen the “old” version of Hairspray. The one with Rikki Lake and Divine. We’ve not seen either HSM. Can you believe it? LOL
December 6th, 2007 at 6:29 amLisa - I’ve never seen the old version of Hairspray, but I read reviews that said this one was better.
And, you and Rosie must see HSM. You will love it!
