How was your week? Ours went pretty well, and I have to say that the kids and I are really enjoying The Story of the World. We started Volume 1: Ancient History and now Jonathan wants to be an archaeologist. Today we wrote messages and then encoded them using either heiroglyphics or cuneiform. I wasn’t as ambitious as the activity book called for – we didn’t actually carve our messages in clay – but we still had a lot of fun.

I must admit I’m thinking my Autumn Reading Challenge list was a little too optimistic. I accomplished so much reading during the summer that I thought it would be a breeze, but I didn’t take into account that we weren’t doing a little thing called school during the summer. So we’ll see if I’m actually able to meet my challenge or not.

Well, before I head to my parents’ house to drop the kids off, I thought I’d leave you with a few links for your browsing pleasure.

~First, two funny vidoes courtesy of Boo Mama. This lady does something I’ve been tempted to do more than once. And this guy takes dance to a new art form. While you’re there, click through Boo Mama’s archives – she’s one funny lady.

~Karen Edmisten‘s Anne and Betsy have some great insight on the difference between boys and girls.

~Susan Wise Bauer is holding a drawing for an Advance Reader Copy of her upcoming book The History of the Ancient World.

~Speaking of contests, don’t forget to leave a comment here if you’d like to win a copy of Barbie in The Twelve Dancing Princesses.

~Christian Classics Ethereal Library has online versions of many classic Christian texts that are in the public domain. The books are available to read online or to download in pdf or e-book form. I downloaded John Donne’s Devotions for my Palm.

~The folks at Charis Connection held a genre experiment for some of their writers this week. The same scene was written by four different authors, each demonstrating a very specific genre. This was the scene: “A man walks into a room occupied by two women. One he loves, one he hates. He utters one line, then exits. One of the women then follows him.” Angela Hunt wrote the scene a la women’s fiction; James Scott Bell wrote it in a hard-boiled, masculine style; Brandilyn Collins wrote it as a murder mystery; and Jack Cavanaugh had a historical take. Very fun.

~Beth at The Brew*Crew Adventure has been posting on the Year of Color theme. Check out this beautiful entry, including her original poem, on the color wisteria. Click through her archives for her other color posts – they shouldn’t be missed.

~Interesting interview with Stephen Baldwin at Radar Online. Not sure whether he’s the right choice as a spokesman for Christianity. I’m glad the guy is saved and loves Jesus, but maybe a little more maturity in his faith would be good before he writes a book? Then again, maybe I’m being too judgmental. What do you think? Hat tip: Lisa Samson.

Well, that’s all for this week. Have a great weekend!

Boomama is hilarious! And I loved those different takes on that one scene. Very cool.

Great links! Planing on using a few of those dance moves and the mommy tantrum in the grocery store tomorrow. The combo should have some effect on Rosie shouldn’t it? *LOL*

    Have a wonderful weekend! *Smile*

I always enjoy your links! That interview with Stephen Baldwin is, well, it’s unique. I got quite a few laughs out of it.

I read that interview. In every other interview I have read or heard Stephen Baldwin do, he has always seemed to be mature and solid in his faith in Christ. I just think the interviewer baited him and was trying to trip him up.

Cameron – you could be right. I haven’t read any other interviews with him – I’ll have to do some googling.
