Review of The Secret of the Swamp King
(The Secret of the Swamp King was provided to me free of charge by Active Christian Media, who received it from the publisher for the purpose of being reviewed.)
The Secret of the Swamp King by Jonathan Rogers is the sequel to The Bark of the Bog Owl. The final book in the trilogy is due to be released May 1st, and I will be purchasing it as soon as it is available.
The second book begins three years after the first one. Aidan is now 15 years old and has spent the last few years living in the court of King Darrow of Corenwald. The king’s son, Steren, is his best friend and Aidan has been growing in strength and popularity ever since he helped rout the Pyrthen enemies of Corenwald.
King Darrow, who once loved Aidan, is consumed with jealousy and being overtaken by madness. He sends Aidan on a suicide mission into the Feechiefen to track down the mythical frog orchid.
I won’t tell you the rest - I don’t want to give anything away - but I will tell you that this book continues the adventure started in the first. Mr. Rogers is a wonderful writer whose descriptions make you see and hear and almost smell the wildness of the Feechiefen. His characters are delightful and well-written and the story moves along at a pace that makes it hard to put the book down.
I highly recommend this trilogy to anyone who loves a good adventure story. These books would also make great gifts for the young readers in your life.
