(Help! Mom! Hollywood’s In My Hamper was provided to me free of charge by Active Christian Media, who received it from the publisher for the purpose of being reviewed.)

I agreed to review Help! Mom! Hollywood’s In My Hamper by Katharine DeBrecht because I was told that it is different than her other book Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed. It’s not.

Some adults may find this kind of sarcastic humor appealing. But I find it disturbing that this book is being marketed as a children’s book. Most children will probably miss the humor in this book, which involves barely-disguised caricatures of Britney Spears, Madonna, and Barbara Streisand.

I was especially annoyed at the drawings. I have a hard enough time keeping my boys away from images of low-cut blouses on TV - even in cartoons - and I would never read them a picture book that included such images.

If you have adults in your life who like political humor, this might be the book for them. But it is not - and shouldn’t be marketed as - a children’s book.
