I will NOT whine, I will NOT whine, I will NOT whine…
Yesterday was not fun. It started out fun. It did NOT end that way. We had an appointment scheduled at 1 p.m., so I decided to take the kids to the park for lunch first. While we were there, I spilled coffee on my shirt, sat in tree pitch, and stepped in a hole and twisted my ankle. Actually, bent it completely sideways, producing a large popping sound, would be more accurate. So there I am on my hands and knees with blinding pain shooting up my leg, wondering if I can stand up. The pain eventually subsided some, and I was able to hobble to our appointment and hobble home. But it hurt. And it felt weird — kind of loose, and not in a good way.
I headed to the doctor and after x-raying it to determine it wasn’t broken and I wasn’t just walking around on a broken ankle due to shock, she pronounced it sprained. It’s a mild sprain. Meaning I don’t need crutches, but I’m icing it and elevating it and hobbling around when I need to do something. And trying not to feel sorry for myself.
We’re going camping this weekend, so I am really praying that the pain will be gone by Friday. The lake we camp at is wonderful, but it’s a slightly uphill hike from the swimming area to the campsites. (And the restroom, I might add.) I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but camping is not really my thing. But Kevin and the kids adore it, and I love watching them have fun, so I go. My hubby is wonderful enough to camp close to home. That way, each evening after dinner I can drive home, take a hot shower, hose the inch-thick layer of dirt from my sandals, and sleep in my soft bed. Then I head back in the morning. He’s found that I can enjoy camping if I just do it, but only if I’ve had a good night’s sleep. So the times we’ve gone and I’ve tried sleeping in the tent have not been good. The first day is fine. The second day, after little or no sleep, I’m not much fun. So the plan for this weekend is to leave Friday morning and stay till Sunday, with Mommy driving home in the evenings for shower and sleep. (And blogging time with no interruptions.)
If you have a chance, some quick arrow prayers for healing for my ankle would be great. What about the rest of you? Are you campers? Willingly or unwillingly?
On a side note, Noah just came in and said, “Mom, I’m like Dory. Know why?”
“No, honey, why?”
“‘Cause I come in the house to get something, but then when I get there I forgot what I came to get. Then I go back outside and remember and have to come back in the house.”
Welcome to my world, little man.

I like to camp some. I can go for about two days, but that’s it. I also have to have my showers – and the showers at the campsites just don’t cut it. Neither do the bathrooms, but they’re a necessity sometimes. I always hate going into a stall and finding 8-legged critters looking back at me. *shudder*
You inspired me to get a homeschooler blog! I clicked on your link, read a few blogs, and decided I liked it well enough to join. I’m going to keep my other blog as my main one and use the homeschool one mainly for posting about homeschool topics. Thanks for the link!
Sending up a prayer for your ankle,
Ashley

(I still need to learn the address for my other blog, but in case you’re wondering, I’m signed on there as chapter4. I figured why confuse myself with a totally different user name?)

We enjoy camping in short bursts although our oldest 3 are at the ages where they each want their own tent.
August 3rd, 2005 at 5:25 pmAshley — I’m with you on the bathrooms. I have a very sensitive nose, and the outhouses — well, I’ll leave the rest to your imagination! Cool on the homeschool blogger site.
Ron — separate tents — that’s an idea. Maybe I’d get more sleep that way!
